Frequently asked questions

If you cannot find your answers here, please do not hesitate to use the #help channel to ask!

‘’Can I have a conjoined twin or a cat with a split face?’’

No, this is not allowed.

‘’Can I do a “solo rp”?’’

Yes! You are allowed to solo roleplay and write in the rp channels. You may also write for yourself with your characters as long as you post it in the group.

‘’Are backdated roleplays allowed?’’

Yes as long as it is noted at the start of the rp, and it doesn’t disrupt established continuity (i.e.: the death of a cat who’s been alive in the present day).

“Is cannibalism allowed”

Cannibalism is not allowed. Neither are any accessories made of cats.

“Does the kitten limit count dead children / adopted children”

Older kits, adolescents, and adults who die do still count to the kitten limit, however still born kits or kittens  who died early in life (less than 3 moons) do not!

Adopted kits also count towards the kitten and litter limit, as they are considered equal to biological kits.

 “How do I retire/npc a character”

Open a character ticket and inform the staff of the change. They will edit the trackers and you are informed to move the bio to the retired/npc folder after deleting the old one.

“Can I switch out my +/-skills”

Yes by doing an assignment for it!

‘’Despite the sons being transphobic can I have an openly transgender cat’’

Yes you can, but the culture is highly against it and thus your character will receive ridicule, bullying and outright threats to their existence. They may even be driven out from the Sons. They place high value on being a male, and wanting to be something else is seen as weak, whereas a female wanting to be something else is seen as trying to achieve rank when you haven't earned it. They are transphobic and we do not recommend doing this.

‘’How do the sons treat Intersex cats’’

Very poorly. They place high value on being born a male and being male. Anything seen as ‘’other’’ is treated badly.

‘’Do rare traits like four ears, wing gene, or split tail have cultural/religious significance in any specific group?’’

The Wing gene is seen being tied to Rahkotar, the Moon Incarnate, in the Children of the moon who worship her. The split tail gene is seen as something to do with Ägres, among the Sun Singers who worship him. Four ears has to do with XXXXXXXXXXX

‘’Can my character rank up into a warrior early?’’
Your character can rank up via assignments into adulthood at the earliest of 10 moons of age. However, until your character is 12 moons of age, they are still considered a ‘’teen’’ and thus they can't have a mate and can't have kits. Their HP is that of a warrior (20) and their skills are active and taken into consideration.

If you want to bring in a new character that is only 10 moons old and a warrior, their history must state a reason why they have graduated early (feat, exceptional skills, trained hard etc). Until the character turns  12 moons, they are still considered a ‘’teen’’ and thus they can't have a mate and can't have kits. Their HP is that of a warrior and their skills are active.

‘’Can my character retire early?’’

Yes! Your character can retire whenever you feel like it fits their story. Just open a ticket and let us know!

All cats will reach elder age at 132 moons (11 years), at which point their HP drops to 15 and they can no longer have biological or holy tree kits, but they do not have to retire right away.

‘’What age does my character become a senior?’’
At 72 moons / 6 years. Their HP rises from 20 to 25.

‘’What's the difference between arranged mateship and political mateship?’’

Political mateship = cats arranged to be mates by leaders in different clans in order to strengthen alliances, mark the start of an alliance or to have more kits. These cats are expected to be mates until one dies and the one from a different clan to be a good role model of what their birth clan is like. If the mateship is made only for one clan to have kits, the mateship is viewed as a fling and not an official commitment to one another.

Arranged mateship = cats arranged to be mates in their kithood by their families. This does not cross borders nor take any influence from the leaders. It is the families hoping to strengthen their bonds.

“Can my cat be in or from a political mateship?”

Yes if it makes political sense and makes sense in character. For example your character can’t be from a political mateship between two clans when they were actively warring each other. Present day political mateships can only happen through leader directed plot, and past political mateships must be approved by staff and work within the timelines. We don’t recommend starting with this kind of character as they are more tricky to make.

‘’Can my cat be in or from an arranged mateship?’’

Inside of Mooseclan where arranged mateships are common between two Mooseclanners, it’s more normal for your character to be born from that union. Arranged mateships are rare/seen as unusual in most clans and places except for Mooseclan and the Sons. This is the more recommended route.

“Do all clans do arranged mateships?”

Inside their own clans? No. Only Mooseclan has this tradition. Outside of the clans the Sons of Storm and Blood have this tradition as a left over from their time as clan cats.

‘’What's the difference between a healer and a sage?’’

A sage is a clan’s spiritual leader with lifelong dedication to learn healing. Sages do nothing else but learn about different herbs, cures, sicknesses and preventive care. On top of this they receive messages from Starclan and are their clan's spiritual leader, often reflecting their clan's relationship with the deities. In real life sages are like surgeons and priests who have dedicated their whole lives to a single practice.

A healer is a general healer- an outsider character. They know the very basics of herbs, cures and sicknesses, but lack the deep knowledge that sages have due to having to do other things as well. They are still hunters, fighters, parents, survivors of the harsh wilderness. They do not have the luxury of just focusing on healing. They do not know how to amputate, how to prevent sicknesses, they can’t cure difficult illnesses.

“Can anyone become a sage? How do you do that?”

Not just anyone can become a sage. Sages are chosen either through tryouts or through story beats, often a combination of both. Still, do not make your character interested in herbs and healing and expect them to get the role just because they want it in character. If you are interested in your character becoming a sage, please contact the staff through tickets and let us know!

“Can anyone become a healer? How do you do that?”

An outsider character can be a healer as long as it is told in their bio where they learned the skill from, as it is something you simply can't pick up on your own. They are the most common in the Daughters of the North, where it is one of the most common professions. It is the least common in the Sons of Blood and Storm, where they look down upon receiving or giving aid.

“Are there specific roles in the daughters/children/sons?”

There are no specific roles other than the ‘’leader’’ roles (Mouth and Blessed One) in the daughters and childrens. Characters have their work titles to differentiate who does what and what they are good at, but there are no official roles within the groups.

The Daughters' most common roles are hunter, gardener and healer.

The Children's most common roles are fighter/protector, scout and recruiter.

The Sons have their leader role Tempest and their second in command Thunder. Other than that everyone else is just a soldier. If you are not a soldier you are nothing, so kits and young in the harvest are not seen as members of the Sons yet. Soldiers' titles are often dramatic ones that describe the cat's brutal acts. They can be things as ‘’the Kin Slayer’’, ‘’The pain bringer’’, ‘’The Bloodied One’’ etc.

‘’How long does it take to travel to x?’’

There is information on how long it takes to travel to each outsider group in their info pages!

Closest to the clans is the Sons of Storm and Blood with only a week's constant travel from Barclan and Mooseclan’s borders.
The mid way is the Smiths of the Meadow with a little over a week of travel from Swanclan’s borders.
The farthest are the Daughters of the North with a whopping two weeks of constant travel from Swanclan’s borders. Remember that the Daughters are a hidden group and do not make their presence known = you can't simply just walk into their home and you need either a guide or a cat with the positive connection to Jahi skill.
